Pratham Golechha - Marketing Intern

Meet Pratham , one of our dynamic marketing interns at 2Rays Solar. In this blog post, Pratham shares his journey into the world of solar and marketing, drawing from his background in computer science and digital marketing. Discover what motivated him to join our team, the skills he honed during his internship, and his insights on working in a rapidly evolving industry.

What drew you to the internship?

I was drawn to this internship because of its unique intersection of the solar industry and marketing, two areas that I'm passionate about. The opportunity to work on marketing strategies within a rapidly growing and impactful industry like solar energy was too good to pass up. Additionally, the chance to learn directly from a founder and be part of a small, dynamic team excited me from the start.

What is your background and how did it influence your interest in this field?

With a background in computer science and four years of experience in digital marketing, I’ve always been intrigued by the role technology plays in shaping consumer behaviour. My technical skills combined with my marketing experience have given me a unique perspective on how to approach challenges in this field. This blend of expertise naturally led me to pursue an internship that focuses on marketing within the tech-driven solar industry.

What was your day-to-day like during the internship?

My day-to-day activities were a mix of collaboration, brainstorming sessions, and hands-on marketing work. I spent a lot of time working closely with the team, which included two other interns and the CEO, on developing and refining marketing strategies. Every day brought new challenges and opportunities to contribute, whether it was through team discussions or independent tasks, making the experience both engaging and rewarding.

What did the internship involve?

The internship involved a variety of responsibilities, from market research and content creation to strategic planning and execution. I worked on multiple aspects that allowed me to apply my marketing skills in real-world scenarios. The internship also provided opportunities to engage with the CEO and other team members, allowing for a deeper understanding of the business and the industry as a whole.

What was it like working with the team?

Working with the team was an incredibly enriching experience. Despite the small size of the team, there was a great diversity of thought and perspective, which made our collaboration sessions particularly insightful. The CEO, in particular, was a visionary leader who encouraged creativity and innovation. This supportive and open environment made it easy to share ideas and learn from one another, which greatly enhanced the overall internship experience.

What is the biggest lesson you learnt during this internship?

The biggest lesson I learned during this internship is the value of adaptability, optimism and open-mindedness. In an industry that is constantly evolving, being able to adjust your strategies and approach on the fly is crucial. I also learned the importance of collaboration and the power of diverse perspectives in driving innovation. These lessons will stay with me as I continue to develop my career in marketing and beyond.

What advice do you have for people interested in solar?

For anyone interested in the solar industry, I would advise them to dive in with curiosity and a willingness to learn. Solar energy is a rapidly growing field with immense potential, offering countless opportunities for innovation and impact. Stay informed about industry trends, network with professionals, and don’t be afraid to start at any level. There’s so much room for growth in this sector. The more you learn, the more you’ll realize the vast possibilities that solar energy holds for the future.

What was your favourite part of the experience?

My favourite part of the experience was the face-to-face interaction and offline collaboration with the team. Being able to work closely with the CEO and other interns in a hands-on environment allowed for deeper connections and a more personal learning experience. The energy and passion that came from these interactions were inspiring, and it was incredibly fulfilling to see our ideas come to life through our teamwork.

What tools and resources would you recommend for people who are interested in the energy industry?

For those interested in the energy industry, I recommend staying up to date with the latest industry news through publications. Additionally, mastering digital marketing tools such as Google Analytics, HubSpot, and SEMrush can be incredibly valuable. Networking through platforms like LinkedIn or attending industry conferences can also provide insights and opportunities to connect with like-minded professionals who share your passion for energy.

What drew you to a career in marketing?

My passion for startups, scaling businesses, and helping products grow is what initially drew me to a career in marketing. I’m fascinated by how strategic marketing can drive a company’s success and influence consumer behaviour. The dynamic nature of marketing, where creativity meets analytics, is something that excites me. I enjoy the challenge of finding innovative ways to connect products with their target audiences and seeing the tangible impact of my efforts.

Was there anything that surprised you about the internship or the industry?

One of the most surprising aspects of the internship was the level of diversity within the small team and the wide range of perspectives that were brought to the table. It was enlightening to see how different backgrounds and ideas could come together to create innovative marketing strategies. Additionally, I was surprised by how quickly the solar industry is evolving, and how much potential there is for growth and new developments in this field. This experience opened my eyes to the dynamic and forward-thinking nature of the industry.

What are the main skills you picked up during the internship?

During the internship, I developed several key skills that will be invaluable in my career. I honed my collaboration and teamwork abilities, learning how to effectively communicate and share ideas in a small, diverse group. I also sharpened my strategic thinking, particularly in the context of marketing within the solar industry. Additionally, I understood how always being positive and optimistic can foster a great working environment.

What would you say to people who don’t care about data mining as companies ‘have all their data anyway’?

I would explain that data mining is crucial for turning raw data into actionable insights. Even if companies have extensive data, without proper analysis, that information is just noise. Data mining allows businesses to uncover patterns, predict trends, and make informed decisions that drive success. It’s not just about having data; it’s about how you use it to create value. Ignoring data mining means missing out on opportunities to optimise strategies and better serve customers.

How did the internship help you explore future career paths?

The internship provided me with a clearer understanding of the solar industry and its potential, which helped me explore how my skills in marketing could be applied in this field. Working closely with the CEO and being involved in different aspects of the business allowed me to see various career paths, from strategic marketing roles to leadership positions. This experience has broadened my perspective on where I can take my career, particularly within innovative, growth-focused sectors like renewable energy.
